It’s such a treat to be able to make Chicken Chop Suey! My mother used to make it all the time when I was a child, and when I got married it was always one of the first things we did together. I just love that dish. This is a new twist on it that I came up with recently, and it’s delicious!

Ingredients For Chicken Chop

We’re going to use curry powder, ginger, cumin, garlic, hot sauce, sour cream, tomatoes, bell pepper, and onions for this dish. I would recommend using only yellow bell peppers because they are milder and sweeter than green ones. For the chicken, you can use whatever kind you want, but I always prefer boneless skinless chicken breasts.

In a small bowl, mix together all of the ingredients except for the sauce, turkey baster, and rice, and then pour the sauce over the chicken. Cover the dish tightly and refrigerate for at least an hour, and up to overnight.

Before serving, remove the chicken from the refrigerator and let it sit in the sauce while you grill your chicken. You’ll need to first marinate the chicken for about half an hour before grilling. For the marinade, mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl together and then add your frozen chicken, allowing the chicken to come to room temperature before adding it to the marinade.

When you have all of your ingredients prepared, you can begin assembling the chicken into a big bowl. Be sure to stuff the chicken fully with the marinade; don’t leave it too full or you won’t be able to get it all out at the end.

Once you have everything ready, it’s time to get your large non-stick skillet ready. Now you need to start heating up your barbecue.


Set your barbecue to medium heat and put it on your grill. It should be pan-seared on all sides. Place the cover on the grill and allow it to slowly smoke for about twenty minutes.

As soon as the smoking is done, take the lid off and add the chicken chop suey to the BBQ. Check to make sure the sauce has been bubbling on the top for a couple of minutes before removing the chicken from the BBQ. Now let the chicken sit for a few minutes while you slice it and serve.

In order to avoid burning your sauce while grilling the chicken chop suey, I suggest dipping it in the batter. Once the chicken is off the BBQ, you can dip it in the sauce and serve it up. You can also stuff it with the breading if you’d like.

Make sure you serve the chicken with green onions and peppers. Because they do not contain much sugar, they help cut down on the sweetness of the dish. Serve up some sour cream and coleslaw to go with the dish, and you’re ready to feast.

A little tip if you’re having dinner at your house and the weather isn’t too great. Instead of eating a full meal, eat a little after your guests come home from work. You’ll be amazed at how good the dish will taste.
