In the present day, healthy people are rare. Today, most of our foods are not so healthy and nutritional. The majority think that only junk food causes lousy health. In reality, vegetables, fruits, or pulses that we eat regularly are not of pure quality. The farmers or the food suppliers mix a lot of colors or artificial substances with them to make them look attractive. So, most of the nutrients get killed in this process. We intake many unhealthy things during our meals. Hence, there is an immediate need to have some food supplements along with our daily diet if we want to stay healthy.

Health Analysis of Healthy People

Many companies now supply food supplements with quality assurance. We have to choose very cautiously so that we can avoid harmful substances. A detailed health analysis reveals that a mixed meal is usually full of all the necessary nutrients that are essential for our body. So it is always better than an unmixed one. A mixed meal includes fat, protein, fiber, etc. It produces a lower PPGR than an unmixed meal. Meals containing rice, eggs, fish, oil, beans, and sprouts have less glucose than rice-only meals. The presence of different kinds of nutrients affects the metabolism and glucose levels of our body.

Results of Different Studies

According to another study by Wolever and Jenkins, the GI calculation method reflects only the carbohydrates. It does not account for other essential nutrients like fat, protein, etc. which are essential parts of macronutrients indispensable for a healthy body. However, meals containing high levels of fat and protein may affect the carbohydrate metabolism of the body. It can induce enhancement of insulin activities or reduce the rate of gastric emptying. The examination of mashed potato mixed with olive oil shows slower gastric emptying. PPGR was slower in oil than water. In one of our studies, the addition of protein, fiber, or fat to carbohydrates, as in RESO meal, there is a marked decrease in both iAUC and the glycemic response. But the addition of only one macronutrient in a mixed meal had a minimal effect on PPGR. Similar other studies report that tuna and cheese, when consumed together with pasta or potatoes, alter the GI level due to the tuna protein.

In contrast, the egg protein of the RE meal does not change the GI level. RE meal consists of about 70% carbohydrates. The lack of significant change in the GI level indicates that there may be inadequate levels of protein which cannot detect any change in the food. Coming to fats, we find that it is pretty difficult to digest fat, and it takes a long time to mix with your body. An uncontrolled intake of fat can cause indigestion and even increases the cholesterol levels in the body. It can be very harmful and attract several health problems. Because of fat, there is a delay in carbohydrates absorption as gastric emptying is slower, which in turn reduces the speed of glucose absorption in the bloodstream.
